A Google Business Profile can be relevant to an eligible local business, but setup begins with the rules. Google generally requires in-person customer contact during stated hours and lists online-only businesses as ineligible, with documented exceptions for some models. This guide was reviewed on 15 October 2026; it does not assume every digital service qualifies.
Describe the real operating model
Write whether customers visit a staffed location, whether your team travels to them or whether service is entirely remote. Check the official eligibility page and supported regions for your case before creating anything. Do not invent a storefront or use another business’s address to make an application look local.
Use accurate public information
Google’s representation guidelines call for the real-world business name and accurate address or service area. Keep promotional phrases out of the name field. Our recommendation is to prepare one approved information sheet so the owner, staff and setup provider use the same current details.
Keep the owner involved
For a hypothetical local repair service, the owner should confirm the service area, public contact details and authorization before a helper starts setup. Keep a record of who manages the profile and where official notifications arrive. Do not promise verification or a particular search position as part of a setup service.
Choose a suitable route if ineligible
An online-only business can still explain its services through a useful website and social pages. Spend the preparation time clarifying the offer, contact route and evidence of real work. Eligibility and feature availability should be checked again when the business model or official guidance changes.
